The privacy preferences lets you increase your privacy towards Web servers.
Turn referrer logging off if you do not want one site to know which other site you just came from.
Note: Some sites depend on referrer logging to work.
Disable automatic redirection if you would rather click redirection links manually.
When logging in to a secure site, the log-in page is marked as sensitive and deleted from cache when exiting Opera.
To make sure all pages navigated to within the site are also deleted, check the option to use cookies to trace password protected pages.
Note: Checking this option may cause site preferences to be lost.
There are four overall ways of handling cookies:
Option | Explanation |
---|---|
Automatically accept all cookies | Accept cookies regardless of who sets them |
Accept only cookies from selected servers | Create a list of servers to accept cookies from |
Display received cookies | Be asked for each invididual cookie |
Do not accept cookies | Refuse cookies without question |
You can fine-tune cookie handling on top of this:
Option | Explanation |
---|---|
Only accept cookies for the server | Accept cookies set by the server but none other |
Do not accept third party cookies | Refuse cookies from other servers than the one you are currently connected to |
Display third party cookies | Be asked about cookies from other servers |
Accept from any servers | Accept all cookies set by any server |
You can handle cookies based on which site sets them, like accepting cookies from trustable.example.com but refuse cookies from questionable.example.com.
Option | Explanation |
---|---|
Accept from server | Servers to accept cookies from. Entering www.example.com accepts cookies from www.example.com but not web.example.com. |
Accept from domains | Domains to accept cookies from. Entering example.com accepts cookies from both www.example.com and web.example.com. |
Accept third party from server | Servers that can set third-party cookies |
Accept third party from domains | Domains that can set third-party cookies |
|
Control illegal usage of top level domains |
The four Refuse actions are logical opposites of the four Accept actions.
Option | Explanation |
---|---|
Throw away new cookies on exit | Delete all cookies on your computer when exiting Opera |
Display warning for illegal domains | Be warned if a server tries to set a cookie for a top level domain |
Display warning for illegal path | Be warned if a server attempts to set a cookie for another server |
